  1. Very cool challenge! Ghosts n' Goblins is difficult on any hardware haha

  2. Some amazing memories and nostalgia here, Ghosts and Goblins especially, and I had it on the speccy too lol.
Brilliant content mate, and thanks for sharing ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿป

  3. Happy New Year, Alex! Enjoyed that as I always do with your vids…..I could hear the anguish in your voice on those first 2 games haha but you did well to be fair and for a while went into beast mode on Rygar haha All the best for 2023 mate ๐Ÿ™‚

  4. Arcade is looking really sharp. Can't wait to see how the museum grows this year.

  5. Are there any known cheats for ghosts and goblins where you hold down a certain button/joystick combination? maybe a code to put in the top score board?

  6. Raiden looks cool. Is it using the same game engine as Twin Cobra? Game mechanics look almost identical

  7. Damn, A.M. has passed?!? Fond memories of Dropzone, Jimmy Whites Whirlwind Snooker, International Karate and (obviously) IK+ . Sad times.

  8. Back then games were frustrating to play , but fun to play a sense of achievement if you completed a level .. I have a ps5 , and to be honest the quality of games is nowhere near as good , as was back in the day . No originality whatsoever.
A joy watching these old classics being played .. difficulty level set at its highest of course.. ๐Ÿ˜‚

  9. Well played in Rygar! You probably know, but each time you end a stage (and your player starts automatically running toward the end of the area) there's some split second timing *at that point*, which requires you to hold the joystick in a "down left" position and you will receive some bonus points. Good luck in GNG and Raiden – also super classic games!

  10. Blimey, Rygar is tough! I'd not played that until today!

  11. There is a drop zone arcade machine in archers โ€œpool paradiseโ€ game.
Itโ€™s one of the unlockable items.

  12. Awesome video. I really enjoy the arcade game play. Happy New Year.

  13. I have NEVER seen the 2nd level of Ghosts & Goblins ๐Ÿ˜๐Ÿ‘

  14. Really interesting to hear you talk about Dazzle in Twickenham. I live and grew up not far from there and would often visit in the late eighties. Also.used to buy "bangers" and "stink bombs" from there. Small world.

  15. Just finished watching, loved that game of Rygar. I was getting stressed and I wasnโ€™t even playing!

  16. This dude looks like the poor mans Tom Hardy :peadophile editiom

  17. That Rygar run was legendary! I've never been able to get even close to getting as far as that on a single credit. Well Done!

  18. When it comes to hard games you know how to pick 'em…..Raiden is relentless. Re Dropzone – you showed the Super Dropzone box for SNES in the video – I first played it on NES and it's a more stripped back game on that console (no bosses) but it's beautifully smooth and just as tough. I think it was originally an Atari 800 game but only played it on NES – even in PAL it's fast and super smooth (no doubt because Archer coded it to play well in PAL). I was 11 or 12 when Space Invaders appeared and I still really miss the old arcades. There was nothing quite like that 80s era.

  19. Hey Grifters weren't cheap either! I looked up to the Grifter, remember they had a Grifter XL too? Not sure what the difference was.

  20. You certainly have yourself a challenge with these selections Alex, what a game Ghosts n Goblins and the sequel is but so damn hard, a 1cc run is truly astonishing
Recently played Raiden for the first time on the Jaguar and love it, that arcade version looks a fair bit harder though
I don't think I've actually ever played Rygar after watching that, can tell you have put some time into it, I must try it out as it looks good
I feel your pain with the Grifter, also my childhood steed and as you say, they weigh a tonne and are made of pig iron, not much chance of getting it nicked was there ๐Ÿคฃ All that said, I sold a nice one I had last year for ยฃ600 so some people value them anyway
Hope to get down there in the next few months all being well ๐Ÿ‘โœŒ๏ธ

  21. Happy new year Alex, hope you had a lovely holiday season! Cracking job on that Rygar run I had one eye on the game and one eye on the hi-score and I whooped for you when I saw the hi-score going up as you scored more. Really good job on Raiden and GnG too, both swines to get far on. I can only very rarely get past the Bat House on GnG in one credit. I've managed to get to stage 4 on Raiden twice, but normally top out just after the second boss. Lovely to see an actual Gunsmoke PCB too, that is also a cracking game (and much like the others, one tough sonuvagun!). Great video mate, take care and all the best, thanks for posting!

  22. Just want to say alex what an amazing channel you have and i think what you done these last few months has been superb i really do need to pop down and see the museum it looks epic a job well done and it really does look amazing, its nice to see what you achieved and built and i really enjoyed watching this video, i hope you had a lovely christmas and new year ๐Ÿ™๐Ÿผ๐Ÿ˜ƒ not sure if you use instagram much but a sent you a message on there ๐Ÿ‘Š๐Ÿผ๐Ÿ˜ƒ

  23. That's too bad but as you say his legacy lives on, both those games sadly never released in NA on Genesis, Snooker game was a great example of 16-bit 3D gaming that still plays well today.
Played G&G plenty of places but I often think about one that was at a farmer's market, my Dad did a job there and he gave me some quarters to pass the time but I was rubbish at it, still am lol. Wasn't the biggest shmup player bitd but Raiden was still a household name to me. Never thought I'd get any better at Rygar but with that Tecmo Xbox collection and emulation I've managed to see a lot more of it than I ever did in arcades. ๐Ÿ˜‰

  24. Yes loved Rygar used to be able to complete it on a single credit but havent played it since the 1990s. Ghost n goblins the best I could do was level 5 on 1 credit. The white dragon would always get me.

  25. is your museam open to the public at any times…would love to be able to play these clasics

  26. 2:23 You won't think it's a lovely pcb when one of the custom chips fails lol! Those boards littered with a dozen custom chips are the worst kind.

  27. I had a double stacked Puckman bootleg similar to that Moon Patrol. Sold it during 2020 when I really needed the money. It was all working great as well. Ah well!

  28. Dazzle !!!!! Blimey I remember that place now! Used to walk down to twickenham high street at lunch time at Richmond College, go to Dazzle and play Street Fighter 2 in there ! Never bought any joke stuff or fancy dress of course ๐Ÿ™‚

  29. Ghosts and goblins….oh that game…
In the UK, back in the day, after entering the final room, the game told you that you need a cross to kill the final boss, showing you a picture of a cross…and sending you back to the start… However they changed the final item you need to kill the end boss from a cross to a shield but didn't tell you. Spent hours searching for the cross, pumping in credits to no avail. Had to end it when the arcade closed. Cost me a fortune back in the day…lol.

Only found this fact out 20 years later so tried again on my bartop recently….finally completed it (good job i didnt have to pay this time round. Curses capcom!!!!! Still loved it.

  30. Tip for GnG: If you give small pushes (left if your enemies are to your left and right f your enemies are at your right… duh) to the joystick and press fire your… well… fire will be more quick and consistent. Itยดs a small "trick" but in this game I can use any help I can get ๐Ÿ˜‰

  31. @Arcade Archive
Hey mate I love that narrow rectangle screen you have in your room behind you on your wall (displaying the live retro wallpapers). Can you tell me what product that is and where do you get them from? Cheers bro

  32. Ghost and Goblins is so tough I had never even seen that second level that you got to. No one had enough 10p's back then to get good at that game!

  33. So cool to see you on BBC news this morning !. Thats some advertising, well done.

  34. Thx for upload. Great work all round! Raiden (Trad) for Megadrive and SNES had subtle differences but it makes you appreciate the port when seeing the arcade version โœŒ๏ธ

  35. Great g&g playing. I played the sequel more. It was my only game on the megadrive for about 6 months when I was young so had plenty of practice ๐Ÿ˜Š still didnโ€™t complete it ๐Ÿ˜‚

  36. I recommend Rygar on hardest difficulty dip setting ๐Ÿ™‚

  37. ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ‘

  38. Great to see some over the shoulder gameplay. G'n'G gets easier if you know how to, its mostly patterns and timings. the red Barron you need to wait until he comes forward and then launch 3/4 shots in using the quick fire technique of tapping right/left along with the fire button at the same time. Also the Red Barron turns into a white Barron after a minute, but you can only do that with the Capcom Stadium Invincibility cheat really.

Great to see Rygar in the hands of the expert ๐Ÿ‘

  39. Thanks for this videos of the real crt screens arcade.

  40. Love your video just subscribed. Will be watching many more. What was the name of the magazine you referred to earlier where they were doing restoration of arcade games? Thank you

  41. Ghosts and Goblins brought me, I subscribed and decided to stay.

  42. Old arcade addict here. There were a group of guys at my local arcade in the mid-80s who could play Defender, Stargate, Robotron, and Joust for as long as we wanted on 1 credit. The all-time high score table on Defender was full of 999,975 scores. (The highest you can get without the score going back to 0).

Rygar, you need to invest a credit or two jumping a lot in most levels, as there are LOTS of hidden "tombstones" that give you all sorts of things. The "iguanas" on the rope levels, if you have the power-ups, you can "bend" your shot. (Shoot it, and then move it around with the joystick while it's in flight). This allows you to shoot up, and then sideways to take out the "iguanas". If you had lived a little longer on that first life and gotten the "Invincibility cross" to complete the set you get a big bonus (I think It's 180,000 points!).

  43. Great games and well played, the Raiden series is one of my favourites of all time. I have all the Raiden games on various PlayStations apart from the three Raiden Fighters games (which includes your Jet) which have only been in a collection on Xbox 360 (US) apart from arcade and PC. Would like that collection released on PS4 ideally, but Raiden 1, 2, and DX are my favourites.

  44. Robotron was one of my favorites. I turned it over twice

  45. Mega arcade addict here and subscribed seeing how great your place looks. I must visit soon as youโ€™re not that far away. GnG is my all time favourite arcade game and Iโ€™m a bit of an expert with a high score of 458,000. Iโ€™m not too shabby at Rygar either scoring just shy of 1,000,000. Really want to come and see some of those rare cabinets. Keep up the good work ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿป

  46. Rastan Saga and Wardner were pretty tough in the arcade. I got quite far on Robocop but it gets stupid hard on the later levels.Same with Guerrilla War. You were also never going to finish Twin Cobra on a couple of 10ps either.

  47. Aww… man Archer!!! Dropzone on the C64, IK+.. damn brings back so many memories… his incredible games just hit the right spot in terms of gameplay hardness… I remember him talking about how much better the Atari 800 was so much better then the C64… really will be sadly missed! RIP Archer! Thanks Alex for mentioning this because I had no idea.

  48. Nice one! Still haven't seen anyone complete Ghosts & Goblins, guess I better search up a longplay for it!

As for Rygar, here are a few tips from an old veteran of that world (I beat the C+VG unofficial "world record" they had on print at the time) xD

    – If you have the Shield power-up and face a stack of Acrobats (as you will on stage 7, where there's always a Shield), just walk up to the lowest one & stand there & the rest will fall to their end on your shield. Nice 10k bonus for that.
    – You don't HAVE to have the shield for that 10k bonus, you can also fire while holding the stick up at the right distance & get them all before they tumble that way. Exact technique required varies by powerup situation here.
    – There are only a few maps where "hoarding points at the end" is really a good strat worth the risk, and they're largey late in the game. However, you always wanna try and max out the "Repulse Bonus" (number of enemies slain), which will level up your Rank , that in turn means bigger bonus at each successive end-of-round summary. Rule of thumb – practice jumping over the "ZeroTime Demon" (end of level 1 is a good place) & milk easy kills for Repulse Bonus near round ends, but leave the level when he starts noteably speeding up.
    – In general, don't backtrack for the two smallest items (200pt golden disk & 500pt small blue shield) if they show up on the left side of the screen. Its better to have time left over at the end of the round.
    – If you jump on the back of a divebombing flying reptile on map 4, you can ride it all the way to the end of the level, with a MASSIVE flock of "birds" then in tow. Try it – tricky to nail but fun!
    – That Extra Life on level 4 is always in the same location, so unbox it when you have a spare split second moment to grab the contents before it wafts away – goes for all Extra Life locations
    – If you see one of the very rare "?" (Question Mark) items pop from a shell, DON'T PICK IT UP! Instead, shoot at it… You'll see ๐Ÿ™‚

…otherwise, its easy to see you got levels 1-6 down pat, so stay with it & best of luck! One of the steepest difficulty curves in the game is making it through level 7 without having died, so you can get the Shield on there for a 5/5 powerup flush (big points bonus for that)
